Welcome to The Dorset

Lewes East Sussex

Following on from the recent tier announcement we have been placed in Tier 2 and are so pleased to say we will be able to re-open next week!

We will be following the relevant restrictions that will be in place. For us to be able to serve you must be visiting the pub for a substantial meal. We can serve you alcohol, but that is alongside the meal. It would be really helpful if you could give us a call to book your table in advance so we can serve you best, we recommend a stay of up to 2 hours for your meal.

We are working really hard to ensure that we put all the necessary measures in place for when we re-open so that we can keep you all safe whilst enjoying your meal.  Thank you all for your understanding, we can’t wait to see you!

Welcome to The Dorset a 300 year old pub in the historic town of Lewes.

The Dorset is one of Harvey & Son’s oldest pubs, built in 1670 on the site of an illegal workhouse, and is about 100 steps from the famous Bridge Wharf brewery. Parts of the original building still form areas of the pub today. Our sign earned the pub a nickname; The Cats, and shows the coat of arms of the Sackville’s - the Earls of Dorset - who kept 2 snow leopards as household pets and claimed ownership of the area between 1588–1842. For the last 160 years the pub as been the headquarters of the legendary Cliffe Bonfire Society, now in our fourth century.

Lee & Melissa along with their team, look forward to welcoming you to eat, drink, sleep and relax.
